Chair Massage Explained

What is chair massage?

Chair massage, also known as seated massage, has become a quick, easy and effective way of relieving pain and stress. You’ll sit in a specially designed chair that holds the body in a relaxed, semi-upright position as your therapist goes to work on your neck, back, and shoulders, relieving tension caused by stress and muscle soreness.

Massages last 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 minutes per person. On request, chair massages for longer periods of time (45-60 minutes) are also possible.

How is chair massage a wellness benefit?

Chair massage has been shown to:

• Increase effectiveness–It's tough to focus when your neck hurts and your shoulders are in knots. A massage literally clears your head.

• Control responses to stress–Even a short massage induces relaxation and resets the body's nervous system to break the cycle of stress response.

• Improve work relationships-People with less muscle tension that feel less stressed are easier to get along with.

• Counter the circulatory problems inherent in office work–Massaging muscles through skin increases the flow of blood to legs and arms that may have reduced flow due to sitting in one position too long.

• Provide a much appreciated and healthful stress break–Employees need to get up from their desks periodically to avoid muscle stiffness and eye strain. Add in a massage during a break and your staff will feel management is doing something proactive for their well being.

• Reduce muscle pain–Sitting in a massage chair opens up the back muscles and relieves strain on the neck. Even 15 minutes of massage to the neck, back, arms and hands can reduce tension headaches, stress and anxiety.

Do I need to remove any clothing or wear any special clothing for the massage?

No. Our massages are performed through the clothing. Regular office or workplace attire is fine for chair massage.

Do your therapists use creams or oils during chair massage?

We don’t usually apply oils or creams to your skin during chair massage. After all, you remain fully clothed. However, per your request, we’d be happy to apply hand cream as we massage your hands.

Where do you perform the massage?

In almost any space that does not interfere with the daily operations of your worksite or event venue yet allows us to move around effectively. For a small event with only one or two therapists it can be a relatively small 10' x 10' area, however for larger events with 3 or more therapists - a larger room would be required. In general, each therapist needs about a 4' x 4' space to work in.

What does set-up entail?

Plan on approximately 15-20 minutes for us to set up our equipment and discuss any last-minute arrangements with you regarding scheduling when our team is on-site for your event.

Medical Precautions, Safety, and Cleanliness

Is chair massage safe? What if I’m pregnant? Should I ask my doctor before getting a massage?

Yes, for most people, chair massage is a safe and effective way of relieving pain, stress, and tension.

However, you may have a medical situation or condition (contraindication) that makes chair massage inadvisable. Contraindications include, but are not limited to, uncontrolled hypertension; uncontrolled diabetes; fractures; herniated discs; malignancy and numbness or tingling in any part of the body – especially the hands and feet. Please tell your therapist about any acute or ongoing health conditions before beginning the chair massage.

Generally, massage is not advised in the first trimester of pregnancy. After that time, massage can be a wonderful way for expectant mothers to release tension and stress. Make sure to let the therapist know if any expectant mothers are going to be receiving a massage so that we can adjust the seat positioning and work accordingly.

Is chair massage clean?

Yes. We use new, disposable face cradle covers for each client, and therapists cleanse and disinfect their hands as well as the massage chair, face-rest, and hand-rest between each massage session to prevent the spread of germs.

Will the massage hurt?

Our clients agree: chair massage relaxes and soothes. To ensure your comfort, we’ll adjust the pressure for each client’s pressure sensitivity and body type. In the course of working out knots or sore areas, there may be some initial discomfort (similar to exercising), but that will quickly subside as the muscle tissue relaxes.

Will it make me sleepy?

Research shows that chair massage recipients feel more alert and energized after their massage than they do before. Immediately following the massage, you’ll likely feel relaxed and sleepy for a few minutes. That’s because your nervous system activates its parasympathetic (relaxation) mode, inducing a slight drop in blood pressure. In fact, the time the body spends in parasympathetic mode is one of the benefits of the massage. In our fast-paced world, people rarely have the chance to let their bodies relax to this degree, and the lack of such relaxation periods can contribute to stress-related disorders. When you stand up and resume your activities, your system will return to its normal state.

I have some bothersome problem areas. Can you help?

Absolutely. If you'd like the therapist to focus on one specific area, just let him or her know. Keep in mind that the more time spent on this specific area, the less time spent on the other areas and chair massages are relatively short. For the best results, book a full hour table massage with the therapist.

Program Scheduling

How do I schedule a visit for my company or special event?

Simply call or email and we'll discuss your specific requirements. Once we set the date of service, number of therapists needed, and other pertinent details, we’ll follow-up with a confirmation e-mail.

How many therapists will I need?

We’ll help you determine what’s best for you. Normally, the number of therapists needed for your worksite program or event depends on the number of participants you expect, the budget for the service, and the amount of time allotted for each participant’s massage.

How long should each massage last?

For an event like a trade show, corporate event, or holiday party, we recommend starting with 10-minute sessions and then adjusting according to the traffic flow of participants. For an ongoing worksite program, we would suggest starting with 15-minute sessions and considering no more than 30-minute massages in order to avoid workflow disruption.

How much lead time do you need?

Lead time will vary depending on the number of therapists needed, and the location and time of the event or sessions. For smaller events requiring only one or two therapists, we can usually schedule within a few days. For events needing multiple therapists, we appreciate at least a one-month notice.

Do you have a minimum number of hours you require for online massage events?

We require a minimum of 2 hours and no more than 8 hours on a single day.

Rates and Payment

What are your rates?

Rates vary by your needs and the number of therapists required. Usually it is 60$ per therapist per hour. Please call for more specific information.

What are your payment terms?

We require payment in full either prior to, or on the day of service. We accept company checks and all major credit cards.

Do you have a gratuity policy?

Gratuities, while not expected, are greatly appreciated. In any service industry, tipping is a way to acknowledge excellent service. If you decide to tip, the average amount is 10% to 20% of the total cost.

What areas do you service?

We work out of Weatherford, Ft. Worth, Dallas, Arlington, Alvarado and any surrounding areas.
